Long Hair and Short Dresses

When I was 13 years old, I was the night-time (7:00 - 11:00 pm) DJ at 106.3, WKIG in Glennville, GA. The station was Adult Contemporary until 7:00, at which point it became Southern Gospel. I made $2.70 an hour. It was a good job. I got to play records all night unless there was a Braves game, and I learned more about Southern Gospel than most 13 or 14 year-olds probably know. I still occasionally pick up these records when I see them, but even if I didn't I'm not sure how I could pass up this one. The photo above is really blurry, but you can still get the idea. Johnnie Phillips and his Trio will be glad to tell you how long hair and short dresses are dragging our Lord's name to shame. And how there are no wheel chairs in heaven. This is good stuff. The back of this record has Johnnie's phone number written on it. I haven't gathered up the guts to call it yet. I wonder if he's still there.

Hello Robert, my name is Kimberly Phillips Hamby, and Johnnie Phillips was my grandfather. Unfortunately he passed away in June 2005. They actually made 4 full length albums which included this one as well as "Long Hair and Short Dresses", "Lord Here Am I", and "A Tribute to Mary" which was their last full length album. My father, sister and I have tried to carry on his legacy but with how busy the world is today have not yet accomplished this. Please email me some time, I'd love to talk to you more about it. You can email me at beccahamby@yahoo.com.

Hi, I worked for Mr. Phillips at Buckhead Air Conditioning and Heating the Summer of 1972 before starting college. It was a great experience. He was a good man as evidenced by the somewhat motley crew that he put up with at the shop. He had a very dry sense of humor and Mrs. Phillips was good with the wisecracks. I used to listen to the Trio every Saturday morning on WGUN ("1010 on your radio dial"), which was a dawn-to-dusk Christian station broadcasting out of a strip shopping center in Smyrna GA.
